Meet the TSO

TSO Chorus

Celebrating 30 years since the establishment of the TSO Chorus, in April 2022, choristers made a triumphant return to the Federation Concert Hall to perform Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the orchestra, after 24 months in isolation.

The TSO Chorus has a proud history of presenting repertoire that spans the 17th and 21st century Passions of JS Bach and Richard Mills and includes a wealth of liturgical works from Haydn to Bernstein.

The choral symphonies of Beethoven, Mendelssohn and Mahler, the Incidental Music of Mendelssohn and Grieg, and operas by Verdi, Bizet and Wagner have showcased the TSO Chorus.

Collaborations with Sydney Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra have brought greater exposure to the chorus, as has participation in Mitsing concerts in Berlin and Barcelona, culminating in an invitation as one of 9 international choirs to premiere a work by British composer, Roxanna Panufnik, in the Berlin Philharmonie.

The TSO Chorus has delivered cutting edge a cappella programs for iconic festivals, notably MOFO, Dark Mofo, 10 Days on the Island and Synaesthesia, and in more recent times created The Sunrise Project, a video demonstrating the resilience of choristers in the pandemic, through a virtual performance of Ola Gjeilo’s The Ground as the emotional backdrop to sensational local scenery.

The TSO Chorus’ enthusiasm for working with Chief Conductor, Eivind Aadland and a return to performances with a live audience, is boundless.
